My name’s Jason, and I’m glad you’re here. I feel for everyone out there who has malware. I’ve been there myself, many times in fact, and that experience has led me to write one of the most straight-forward, easy to understand, virus removal guides I’ve come across.
Computers and the internet have taken the world by storm, technology advances extremely fast, and for whatever reason, many people have not had the opportunity or inspiration to learn about taking care of their PC. The intention of this guide is to make it easy for you to take care of your PC, and cover the questions the many guides skip over. Help yourself be more aware of your computer and it’s ins and outs.
SpyAwareness begins with a Quick-Start Guide with succinct steps and tutorial links for those of you who’re feeling confident and interested in getting right to it.
It also has in-depth explanations of malware-removal methods.
Even better than that (to me anyway,) is that it explains the pros and cons of different methods, so readers are able to select the one that appeals most to them. This is often commented on as one of the most useful things for people, as they feel empowered with knowledge and more able to choose what feels best. Because computers are a vital part of many people’s lives, and they often feel disconnected and incapable of managing them, for now, there is a definite need for this guide.

- Is your system running slower and slower?
- Do you see pop-up ads telling you to download software to fix system ‘deterioration’?
- Do your desktop icons disappear and then reappear?
- Do you keep seeing the ‘Blue Screen of Death’?
You likely have spyware or some other form of malware. It may not be the best feeling in the world if your PC is infected, I understand. SpiritSentient intends to help.
If your PC is infected, it’s common for spyware to hijack your PC’s browser and direct you to sites which claim they can scan your computer for free are often a source of other dangerous viruses that can compromise a computer. I’m all for solving things in a cost-effective way, I’ve just seen so many people click on something that claims it will help them, only for them to acquire MORE malware.
As well, many tools are comprehensive and do a great job, but due to the wide variety of mutations of VirtuMonde and other malware on the internet, they often will not catch every infection, and if even one infection remains on your PC, it can require hours and hours of work in removing it all over again.
This guide and the free tools package offered with it, all work together in combination to provide the utmost in virus and malware removal.
How Did I Get Infected?
There are many ways to get infected, the main one’s being: Free applications that are merely vehicles for bundled spyware, peer-to-peer sharing like BitTorrent, Lime-wire, Napster, or even file-storage sites such as RapidShare and MegaUpload.
If you, or someone else using your computer, visit sites that are questionable, all kinds of viruses may be automatically downloaded and installed onto your computer. A large majority of porn sites are littered with viruses and other malicious tools or programs that can compromise your PC.
You may have already spent hours with little success. We’ve tried all of the major software tools available on the Internet, from free downloads to the most expensive retail ones, but they just don’t work on their own! A tool package of the best of the best, used in combination with an in-depth guide, is a very powerful method.
Many people are infected and don’t even know it, viruses can often be subtle, incubate and build up over time, until something tips the user off.
A Little About my History with Malware Removal.
I attract a wide variety of experiences in my life, and as far back as I can remember, my family has always been heavily into computers. Not too surprisingly, I’ve had a wide variety of computer experiences. I remember learning my first few lines of Commodore64 Basic programming code when I was 7 years old, from my uncle. I’ve had tons of experience with PCs from the 286 onwards (and my latest acquisition is a Quad Core Pentium — so excited!)
Back in the ‘early days’ I learned all about viruses while cleaning them from my friends computers as well as my own. I’d use F-Prot and McAfee For Dos. I’d use Norton Disk Doctor to scan for corruption. After a while I began to consider myself an expert, and I gave an incredibly in-depth presentation on viruses with my friend Kevin for my computers class (we called them virii back then, ’cause it was fun). It’s progressed from there.
I’ve cleaned more viruses than I can count, over 30,000 infections to date, and I’ve stayed up-to-date and on the cutting edge regarding tools and the progression from Viruses to Trojans to Spyware to Rootkits. I use my computer and scan the net for incredible media and software pretty much constantly, and in doing so I’m consistently aware of the latest infections.
In that vein, I’m going to describe to you the circumstances which led me to write this book. This past summer I cleaned VirtuMonde and its variants from a bunch of computers, one of them my own. (It was the summer of VirtuMonde). The first cleaning took 6 hours while I fumbled around with techniques to clean other spyware that just wouldn’t cut it for VirtuMonde. I got extremely fast at it after that, and made short work of the other infections that month, so once more I’m feeling like an expert on viruses.
Fast-forward to Christmas Time, a client who absolutely did not want to re-format his hard drive and lose all his settings, comes to me with a new variant of VirtuMonde. He’s relatively tech-savvy and he’s tried all the major routes: Smitfraudfix, VundoFix, ComboFix, MBAM – all excellent products. I told him it’d take me a couple hours, perhaps a little more but I wouldn’t charge him more than 2 hours work. After all was said and done, it took me approximately 12 hours to clean the infection, and I had to really ‘hack and slash’ into the infection manually. At the end I had to reset permissions on all his files and registry entries, a somewhat complex and unexpected step.
Suffice to say, I was not super-interested in going through that process again, and as I was relating it to my family, I can’t remember exactly how, but the idea of writing a book came up, and I felt this intense calling to write it. It was New Year’s Eve and I started (and finished) the lion’s share of this guide, with the goal of educating people about viruses and malware in general, by looking at the case of VirtuMonde.
